Teresa Vanneck-Surplice
Artist | Poet | Sculptor | Teacher | Activist |
Author of 'Women, War & Peace'
Hello, I’m Teresa Vanneck-Surplice. I’m a Londoner. Thank you for coming here to explore my website. In my early years I lived through Word War II near Biggin Hill and experienced the dangers of war. And later during my journey as an artist and a teacher, I actively supported women’s rights.
Life has good moments and bad.
My art in my book 'Women, War and Peace', is a message to women to never give up.
The artwork presented on this website is only a fraction of all paintings, sculptures and poems created by Teresa Vanneck-Surplice. A whole world of memories of war and experiences as a woman are yet to be discovered.

Background
As a survivor of World War II, Teresa is a painter, sculptor, artist, poet, author and teacher. She holds a B.A and M.A in English Literature, an M.A in Art and M.A in Theology. She became a university lecturer and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Alongside a successful career teaching English Literature Teresa developed her art practice attending Adult Art Education Classes completing a postgraduate degree in 2000. Teresa has wide-ranging interests, which can be condensed to three principle subjects: women, war and peace. She has contributed financially towards women’s issues for over 60 years.
The Compass Hill Art Studio was, for over two centuries, the milking parlour for the cows on the Richmond fields. It is now home to a small gallery housing a large collection of art by Teresa Vanneck-Surplice.
A painter of oils and acrylics, Teresa's book 'Women, War and Peace' contains artwork, poetry and pictures of sculptures - some done as a child while she watched as World War II raged around her home near Biggin Hill Airport, the epicentre of the war.
This remarkable body of artwork awaits your curiosity, with a story to tell of a life well lived, by a remarkable person who is an advocate, supporter and champion of women artists.
